Penwell Gabel Cemetery, Topeka, Kansas KS

Cemetery Wildlife

Generations of Topeka children grew up feeding the ducks at the cemetery, and they are a common sight at the Reflection Pond at 6th & Gage.

It is not uncommon to see traffic completely stopped on 6th Avenue waiting for a mother duck and her babies to cross the road.

Our cemetery is on the Central Flyway, a waterfowl migration route designated by the Department of Fish and Wildlife. The pond is a popular spot for several species of waterfowl, including Canada Geese, Mallards and Wood Ducks, a native Kansas species.
